First Day of Spring

New Garden Hoses

March 20th marks the first day of spring.

Some plot owners (plotters?) have already seen strong growth of winter vegetables and salads such as kale, chard, collards, parsnips, and leeks.

There is evidence of healthy garlic growth in at least three plots. Hopefully they are the hard neck variety, which produce beautiful curly garlic scapes which are perfect chopped in soup or salads, by about June.

The garden shot shown here is of the new garden hose extension located on the west side of the garden.

Many thanks for Rod and Daryl who designed and installed the hose and taps. Now east and west side Plotters can have equal access to a hose spray and watering can filler.
Theoretically the hose could still freeze with temperatures dropping to -2 at night, but the water is now on and warm weather is now here.

Time to celebrate spring 🙂

  1. Yes, good work Rod and Daryl! Also for getting the lights up!
I have to get in there and dig my plot, maybe add some compost, and then put my baby lettuce plants in.
    Spring! Yay!
